No Rain, No Flowers

Niki Lou Savich—No Rain, No Flowers

A few years ago when I moved into my house, I discovered that something had been left behind by a previous occupant.  Actually, it was just a piece of duct tape, strategically placed on a slat of the wide blinds in a bedroom…only visible when the blinds were closed.

Someone had taken a marker to the duct tape and drawn the words “No rain, no flowers,” along with thunder clouds, raindrops, and of course, flowers.

So simple, so true, and yet so profound.

When I was a little girl, I loved to go out into the fields around our farmhouse and pick flowers for my mother.  It brought me such joy to be able to give her my little bouquet of wildflowers.

Today, my songs are my flowers…gathered and arranged in love.  It brings me so much joy to be able to share them with others.  Some of my flowers took a lot of rain to grow.  Some took thunderstorms to bloom.

Even so, I’d still rather have flowers to give.

No rain, no flowers.
