HARDEST GOODBYE
I hold your hand, behold your face
I thank the Lord for one more day
Here by your side I cannot leave
These precious moments bittersweet
Deathbed vigils. They are a precious privilege that we wouldn’t trade for anything. Nothing compares, each one unlike any other… and where last words spoken sink deepest into our hearts.
You say “Please sing that sparrow song
About the one His eye is on”
I sing to you, you fall asleep
I hold you tight and softly weep
During these seasons, there is time for quiet reflection. We become more in tune with what really matters, what is truly of utmost importance in this life and we wish that we could live with this perspective always.
Dearest love, sweetest kiss, hardest goodbye
Undeniably, there is a heartbreaking finality in death’s goodbyes. But have you ever considered that for believers in Jesus, our hardest partings on earth will become our sweetest embraces in heaven?
As for me, I am thinking more and more of those reunions to come. The Lord is faithfully continuing to heal my heart of deepest grief; my tears of sorrow are gradually giving way to tears of hope, and a sweet longing is beginning to fill my soul. I know that joy is waiting for me just beyond the horizon, where I will be reunited with my dearly beloved once again… soon, and forever. Amen.
I hear you say “Remember me”
I say “Long as I live and breathe”
You say again “Keep loving me”
I say “Long as eternity”
