HOME SWEET HOME
Warm blanket of sun, soft pillow of soil
My journey is done, no more sorrow and toil
This dwelling of dust in silence will lay
Surrendered and trusting to rise up one day
Rest in peace. That’s our hope. It’s what we want for our loved ones who pass on before us. It’s what we want for ourselves one day too. But what really happens to the person who dies?
You know, when we give someone a hug, we aren’t really hugging ‘a body’. We are hugging ‘the person’ inside the body. The body is just a connection point… and so to me, my body isn’t really ‘me’. As long as my body has life, I have a way of living in and connecting with this world. However, when my body one day dies, the real me will keep right on living!
I’m a soul that’s finished my race
And I’m breaking free from this old world
On my way Home up in Heaven
On that beautiful shore
I will see my Jesus’ dear face
As I run into that open door
I may be gone from my body
But I am Home Sweet Home with the Lord
When Jesus was resurrected after His death, He wasn’t a ghost. He was raised up with a body that could never suffer or die again ~ a ‘spiritual body’. And after we die, we are promised the same thing… when it’s our turn to be resurrected. And on that day, we will be able to hug each other once again! Praise the Lord!!
“So also is the resurrection of the dead. The body is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption. It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power. It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body” (1 Corinthians 15:42-44, emphasis mine).
Took nothing along, left it all behind
Just singing a song with that heavenly choir
Awaiting the day the dead will arise
Together forever with no more goodbyes
No more death and decay. No more sickness and sorrow and suffering. And no more goodbyes… forevermore!! For all who die with faith in the Lord Jesus Christ will then be able to say:
I may be gone from my body
But I am Home Sweet Home with the Lord
