O MY SORROW
O that mournful day when my lover went away
Never to return until that Unclouded Day
Broke my heart in two, turned my brown eyes into gray
Sorrow came to me and Sorrow came to stay
The idea for this song first came to me on the day when it finally dawned on me that grieving was not just a process with a neat and tidy beginning and ending. Not at all! For when true grieving entered into the depths of my soul, Sorrow had definitely come to stay… and has been with me ever since.
O my tears do flow like a flood I’ve never known
Till that awesome day when I will fly to that Home
Now my lover fair is so happy over there
While my Sorrow is a cross that I must bear
Have you listened to this song? Such sad lyrics, yet such happy music! But I’ve found that sometimes that’s the best combination… like the tears that come through laughter. A little levity can go a long way in helping us to bear up under our burden of grief. And in the midst of deep and abiding sadness, there can actually be joy for the child of God. Yes, and there can even be hope.
O that glorious day when I see those pearly gates
When my time has come I’ll have no longer to wait
I will finally have my true lover by my side
I will turn to Sorrow and I’ll say goodbye
And what a welcome goodbye that will be!! Goodbye to a broken heart! Goodbye to all our tears! And most especially, goodbye to that cross of grief that we may have had to carry all the way to our grave!
O my Sorrow, ever walk with me
I am part of you, you are part of me
O my Sorrow, I will say goodbye
When I see my lover in that By And By
“So the ransomed of the Lord shall return,
And come to Zion with singing,
With everlasting joy on their heads.
They shall obtain joy and gladness;
Sorrow and sighing shall flee away.”
~ Isaiah 51:11
Hallelujah!!!
