FROZEN TEARS
Frozen tears fall from above
To the earth just like the rain
Soaking spheres of hopelessness
Under curse of death and pain
Every time I see a funeral procession or a graveside service in the rain, my immediate thought is that God Himself is crying right along with these brokenhearted people. And even when I am enjoying the beauty and awe of snow falling down to the earth from the sky, I sometimes think of it as tears from Heaven falling down upon this sad and broken world.
Frozen tears fall down like snow
Blowing round our shattered hearts
Lives of sorrow, sin and toil
In a world all come apart
When I began writing this song, it was full of the hopelessness of our sad situation. Then I decided that I wanted to write a ‘Christmas song’ for my next album. What better place to begin than with a song that seemed to be crying out for hope!
Frozen tears come down to us
Heaven bows to kiss the earth
When such love and sorrow meet
Born of God, a Savior’s birth
This song takes me to a place before there was even the notion of Christmas. It takes me all the way back to an abandoned Garden of Eden. Can you imagine what Adam and Eve must have felt as they glanced back one last time to ‘paradise lost’? But they carried in their hearts one tiny seed of hope from God… the hope of a Savior, the promise of ‘paradise regained’.
Frozen tears upon His face
Child of Sorrows weep with us
Only Hope of all mankind
Come to die upon a cross
So why is there Christmas at all? Because God’s heart broke when ours did…and He knew that only He could make things right. He sent His Son, Jesus, into this broken-down, brokenhearted world to be our Savior. At just the right time. In just the right way.
In the dark before the dawn
In the cold before sunrise
In the winter of our souls
Frozen tears fall from the skies
Blessed Christmas to us all.
