MY OFFERING
I bring my heart, O Lord
To lay down at Your feet
All my brokenness and pain
I give to You, my King
This is my offering
I long to bring an offering to the Lord. He is so good to me… and He is so worthy! But what can a morally and spiritually bankrupt person like me ever give to Him that He would want?
I bring my sin, O Lord
Before Your Mercy Seat
All my failings, all my fears
To give to You, my King
This is my offering
This is just a simple song, but to me it makes a simply profound point: all that I could ever truly offer to the Lord of myself is my great need of Him.
I bring my tears, my Lord
And in Your bottle keep
Not one lost, all written down
I give to You, my King,
This is my offering
“Surely He has borne our griefs
And carried our sorrows;
Yet we esteemed Him stricken,
Smitten by God, and afflicted.
But He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes we are healed.”
~ Isaiah 53:4-5 (emphasis mine)
His salvation for all of my sin and failings; His healing for all of my brokenness and pain; and His peace for all of my fears and tears. In short, His offering for mine. Wow.
I bring my thirst, O Lord
Your Living Water seek
I lift up my empty cup
To give to You, my King
This is my offering
“What shall I render to the Lord
For all His benefits toward me?
I will take up the cup of salvation,
And call upon the name of the Lord.”
~ Psalm 116:12-13
I will say it again: all that I could ever truly offer to the Lord of myself is my great need of Him.
I lift up my empty cup
To give to You, my King
This is my offering
