WHERE THE EAGLES FLY
O weary soul, just like a child
In mother’s arms rest for awhile
While here below look to the sky
Very soon you’ll go where the eagles fly
Is your soul weary? Mine is. I feel terribly weighted down from all the struggle, pain and sadness of this world… and of this life. I am grateful beyond words for all of the Lord’s many blessings ~ but still, my soul remains so very heavy laden.
Do you remember that little saying, “Let go and let God”? Even though it sounds so simple, almost trite, in actuality it is hugely profound and apropos; it is exactly what our weary souls need to do.
Leave all your pain, let sorrow go
And close your eyes, soon you will know
Your Maker’s face, love in His eyes
As He carries you where the eagles fly
“But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.”
~ Isaiah 40:31
Let go, and wait on the Lord… so simple sounding, and yet so difficult to do! But to me, this is the epitome of faith. A most beautiful picture of this is found in Psalm 131:2 ~
“Surely I have calmed and quieted my soul,
Like a weaned child with his mother;
Like a weaned child is my soul within me.”
A satiated child in the arms of his mother ~ utter surrender and absolute trust… total faith. And isn’t this the kind of faith we long for as we navigate the passing of a dearly beloved one from this earth?
Lay down your head upon my breast
For soon you’ll draw your final breath
Too soon you’ll go, I’ll say goodbye
As you soar above where the eagles fly
So then, weary soul, take heart… and look up. For soon our little day will be over, our race will be won, and we too will go ~
Where the eagles fly
Through the valley deep and wide
To the mountain far and high
Where the eagles fly
